It'd been a while since he'd managed to get some alone time with his fellow Beast. He'd had the occasional mission as well as unwilling tag along. For Zev anyway. Mint had stayed curious of the man, ex combat mercenary milling aorund in Rocket training others. He didn't emote too much, and Mint, as he did with all his friends, seemed to have to lead the conversation for them. It never occurred to him that perhaps Zev didn't want to speak. Of course not. He was cute, charming. Everyone wanted to speak with him. [break][break]

But with the development of Zev Harcourt's avatarship, it seemed was keen on investigating himself. Which was good. Mint was curious of the rock parasite as well. The fear reported by the megalopolans in that strange prison mishap. The changes Zev seemed to be undergoing. Though, mentally, he's unclear of the more serious changes. Mainly because he didn't have a good baseline prior. All the same, when Zev inquires about his data on Necrozma, and even schedules a time for them to link up, Mint is more than happy to accommodate. [break][break]

He can go over his field data anywhere, carrying with him a table and his trusty detector. To avoid any possible, unforeseen consequences of poking the Beast, Mint arranges a meeting early evening in the desert. The temperature was dropping, and a cool wind buffeted his clothes. Thankfully, no sandstorm in sight. He opens his tablet, sending a quick message as he got comfortable on a rock and waited. [break][break]

"Can't wait to see if there's been any avatar development. Maybe I should check the blood too." he murmured to himself.

Zev arrived at the agreed-upon rendezvous point shortly after Mint, dressed in clothing suitable for a trek through the desert. He greeted his fellow Beast with a curt nod of his head. "Frost." [break][break]

A twilit sky stretched from horizon to horizon, mirroring the endless stretch of golden sand. When Zev had reached out to Mint, he'd expected to meet in the labs or somewhere else to review data previously gathered during the battle against Kyurem. [break][break]

But, he supposed, conducting tests at this magnitude was easier and safer out in the open. [break][break]

Instead of engaging in small talk first, Zev got straight to the point. "What's your plan for how we should proceed?"

"Harcourt~" he said, far friendlier than simple politeness would allow. But he'd been annoyingly cheery aorund the older beast since they'd met. Mint beckoned the man closer as he pulled up an easy to digest print out on his handheld. The little chart had a simple bar graph with a few comparisons next to each other that he was sure Zev would be able to understand. [break][break]

"Well first, you wanted to see what I'd found when I studied Necrozma during Kyurem right? Especially during that blaster part?" Mint said as he pointed as the various bars on the graph. "As you know, infinity energy reads off of everything that exists, Legendaries just have a bit more of it. And Necrozma?? Necrozma's weirdly reading higher than almost every other legend on the field." he said tapping the screen before handing over the device to his fellow beast. [break][break]

[break][break] Mint added casually, having compartmentalized the death of his best friend during Dawn of the Darkest Day. [break][break]

"You'll also notice during the fight, its readings shot up significantly when you expended that laser beam. But comparing the damages to a monster like Kyurem isn't fair. I want to see that again too."

Taking the device from Mint, Zev examined the charts and graphs closely. Sure enough, the data all revealed the simple truth that his energy output, as the Avatar of Necrozma, exceeded other Avatars' by significant amounts. [break][break]

He glanced up at Mint when the other Beast mentioned obtaining another reading for Zev's laser beam. Though he had no qualms with testing the attack on the field, he hadn't yet obtained an energy source he could use mid-battle. [break][break]

"Fine," Zev said. He handed the tablet back to Mint, then released a Pokémon. His Seviper coiled up by the rock on which Mint sat, ready to assist her master. [break][break]

Zev turned his back on them both to face the desert and its darkened firmament. Crystals bloomed across his body, summoned by his will. They spread first across his entire right arm from fingertips to shoulder, then consumed the rest of him in shards of living metal. [break][break]

And as his right arm twisted into a cannon-like armature, even his bones and organs transformed to protect him from the enormous output of power. [break][break]

Brilliant white energy gathered in the claw at the end of Zev's cannon arm. He aimed it at the distant clouds, braced himself with a wide-legged stance, and gritted his teeth. [break][break]

When the accumulated energy reached its maximum limit, he fired. The blinding beam of light cleaved through the air in a straight line.

The spike in energy is obvious. Mint pulls back, giving the man his much needed space to prepare. He watched, covered his eyes as the beam shot out of Zev. Neither seemed to be worried too much about League appearing. They probably had their hands full. Hopefully, anybody still in the desert would imagine it a hallucination caused by the heat. [break][break]

Mint takes precaution. Even if not aimed at him, the laser is so powerful he can feel the scramble of infinity energy from where he stands. After its over, he moves in to look over Zev before he fully recovers. He darts over, rushing in a half float half run as he came to look at how deep the laser had pushed Zev into the sand. He then came up to look over the crystalline canon before back at his tablet. [break][break]

"Better." he noted, the readings more easily distinguished. "I don't know the exact output...but someone back at the labs does. They can probably replicate these numbers and build a little sim off how much crap you actually could blow through." he hoped Zev never had to use it in Lilycove. [break][break]

"I think...how are you feeling Zev? Physically?" he asked before grinning. "How many more times can you shoot that thing?" he's only half joking. It'd be good to know how many shots he had in him, and how powerful they could be or if they halved in power every time. Good for strategizing. "Hungry?" he added. From the little he could glean, Necrozma was always hungry. [break][break]

"You kind of sucked up a little bit of energy at the end, I think." he said as he looked over a small dip in reading before they shot up again.

Zev had mentally prepared himself for a sudden drop in his energy levels after the laser beam. After the first time he'd used that power, it left him so fatigued that he'd struggled to remain standing. It was a major flaw in design and an unfortunate setback. As such, he'd relegated use of the ability only to circumstances where he could easily recharge or had allies to defend him. [break][break]

This time, however, the exhaustion did not come. Zev stood nearly to his knees in the soft sand, his body slowly reverting back to normal blood and tissue. He blinked in wonder and stared down at his right arm, still transformed into the cannon shape. [break][break]

"I feel fine," he admitted. Willing his arm back to its normal form, he started pulling himself out of the hole he'd created. "Normally that kind of attack requires an extensive recovery period afterward, but not this time, it seems." [break][break]

How mystifying. How thrilling.

"When you need to recover, do your crystals disappear? Or could they still shield you from harm?" he asked as he bent down to scratch at his leg. A strange feather fluttered to the ground which the Beast plucked up to show. "Does your exhaustion affect, say, the thickness of those protective crystals? I doubt one of these can cut through to injury since its mostly metals but you never know." [break][break]

He golds the feather carefully, still unfamiliar with the best way to wield it so it doesn't cut into him again. A glance back at his at his notes, "I think, your black crystals are constantly absorbing energy right? That powers up this laser and you risk running out. But in a situation like say, against another energy focused legend, you'd possibly be fine. Just depends on how good your patron is at absorbing and breaking down energy thrown at you." he said. [break][break]

"Anyway, everything in Kyurem was infinity based. I'd love to see what happens if you chow down on those weird Eternatus limbs we found in Ultra Deep Sea, or even Kyogre. Kyogre's primal energy has been spiking heavily. Seems that instead of getting primal sickness it just goes on rampage. Maybe it'll calm down if you take a bite." [break][break]

For emphasis he hooks down his index fingers and brings them to his mouth to really hit home the vampiric nature of Necrozma's patronage. "I do worry, however, the long term effects of this on you physically. We don't have to keep you charged up on energy do we?" He was similar to Zapdos, in the sense that both enjoyed ingesting and absorbing power. But Zapdos had other means of eating. He had no idea what a crystalline parasite like Necrozma needed. "I want you to shoot that laser to exhaustion, but I'm worried about how long recovery may take. On the other hand, we could find out in real time if feeding you energy blasts would help you recover faster. But your choice." He just liked to see every options. War would get desperate, and they were on the brink of it. Understanding every aspects of themselves down to what their limits were and how far they could push them would be vital to the cause.

Eyeing the strange feather Mint appeared to produce from his own flesh, Zev waited until the other Beast's ceaseless chatter finished. Then he turned his gaze back to the younger man. [break][break]

"So far, my armor's worked fine even during a recovery period. Absorbing more energy helps mitigate the exhaustion, but I do it consciously. It isn't something that passively happens." [break][break]

"After the battle at the Silent Icelands, I only needed a day to recover, but that was offset by the electricity provided by oscar clayton's Xurkitree." [break][break]

Zev cast a sidelong glance at his Seviper and issued a command via hand signal. The serpent relaxed, clearly no longer needed. [break][break]

"I can consume Infinity Energy, fire, electricity, and light—including sunlight from Pokémon's moves. I've even taken Dynergy into myself, but it's not pleasant." The assassin frowned. "I haven't tested Primal Energy yet, though."

As Zev confirmed some of his theories, Neon was quick to tap notes into his little device, minimizing charts and graphs for a simple notepad app. "Maybe working on doing is passively could help mitigate your exhaustion between blasts." he said, thought he had no idea how that'd work with Zev's current biology. "It would make you rely less on active absorption which might hurt if you intake more than the crystals can take." [break][break]

"What do you mean unpleasant? Feel sick? Taste metal?" he asked, looking up briefly before back down at his handheld. He grinned once more as he checked something before adding quickly, "Wanna try Primal? I have Kyogre's approximate coords right now. I need to refresh it's trackers anyway." he said flashing the device to the fellow beast once more to show a blinking dot where the rampaging whale was.

Zev wasn't sure how to start absorbing energy and light passively, though as he contemplated Mint's words, he recalled how he'd discovered his ability in the first place. At the time, his power was uncontrolled, causing power outages in random buildings, including his own apartment. Street lights went out whenever he passed beneath them. [break][break]

It had taken daily practice for several weeks to get his ability under control. Now, he could do it with an idle, passing thought. [break][break]

"Passive consumption is a good idea in theory but not in practice," Zev said at length. "I'd prefer to have power sources on-hand, such as Pokémon. Or my enemies." [break][break]

Since experimenting with Oscar's Infinity Energy machine, the Beast had wondered if it was possible to absorb another human's store of it. And if he could kill someone that way. [break][break]

"I mean it's unpleasant," Zev repeated, unwilling to give more information in that regard. "Kyogre would be worth investigating, though." [break][break]

He checked his watch. [break][break]

"Make a rain check for it. I have other obligations later today, but keep me updated."
